Periodicals
One of the greatest things about the gaming community is there are always new developements happening, new expansions being published, and new faces on the scene. Periodicals are a great way to keep up with the changes in the world of RPG and are usually more affordable than buying the new editions of campaign books. I have listed some of the periodicals I found to be useful and informative not only in news, but also in updated and exciting gameplay.
1. Hansen, Kasper Friis. Playground. Print. Official Website.
This magazine is a fairly new quarterly based out of Europe with a somewhat cult-like following. They are a quarterly magazine for and about the New Wave in roleplaying, covering live-action and tabletop roleplaying around the world. Subscriptions are print only and are shipped outside of Europe (shipping fees apply). This is a magazine that is going to give more information on trends and news than actual game-play.
2. Kobold Quarterly. Print and Web. http://www.koboldquarterly.com/
This is a quarterly magazine that, under one subscription, is available in both PDF and print. This magazine is going to cover gameplay, introduce new aspects into general RPG gaming, news articles, interviews, and other resources for tabletop only RPG. This magazine also has a great online resource for its users that include a great deal of bonus articles and news.
3. Wizards of the Coast. Dragon. Web. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Tool.aspx?x=dnd/4new/tool/dragonmagazine
This magazine is published by the creators of Dungeon and Dragons. It is a resource for players and game masters alike, and is centered entirely on Dungeons and Dragons game-play. This magazine is available online and they offer a sample article for prospective customers. This would be a great tool for those interested in improving their Dungeons and Dragons game, though it will not cross over into other genres as other magazines might.
Wizards of the Coast. Dungeon. Web. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Tool.aspx?x=dnd/4new/tool/dungeonmagazine
This magazine is also published by the creators of Dungeons and Dragons. This magazine, however, is geared strictly to those acting as a dungeon or game master. It offers tips on improving campaigns as well as new information in the industry. It also gives sample stories for the dungeon and game masters to use in their campaign creations.
